FUN IN FLORAL

I’ve noticed a lot more statement pieces this year for spring, than in the past. This season, it seems like the leading “F” in fashion stands for FUN, and a lot of designers and retailers are putting quite a bit more personality and life into their clothing. One of the main items I’ve seen making bold statements has been outerwear; specifically, bomber jackets. The bomber jacket trend became quite popular a few seasons ago in the traditional olive green, but this year it’s back and better than ever! Jackets with intricate details, floral prints, and shiny satin material have been showing up in most major retail stores and adding a “pop” to outfits everywhere. Being a lover of contrast, I just couldn’t pass up this jacket. I’m obsessed with how the soft feminine print plays off of the sporty vibe of the garment. With such a bold piece, I kept the rest of the look pretty simple with a slightly distressed, frayed edge skinny jean and black strappy heels. To keep the outfit playful and light, I added my new taupe fringe bag and was on my way! Statement jackets are a very easy way to add some interest to an otherwise simple or rather dull look without putting forth too much effort. SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK

I’m not sure what it is exactly, but there’s something about denim jackets that just SCREAM “springtime” to me. No matter what wash they are in, this timeless piece is one that has graced many decades and will never go out style. I have about four or five denim jackets in my personal collection but this one is by far the most unique. I love that its traditional sleeves have been cut off and replaced with sweater substitutes, as well as the ever so eye-catching Metallica death metal patch that covers the back. Because this jacket alone has SO much going on, I layered it over a simple sleeveless mock neck sweater dress. I kept the accessories equally as subdued with a black wide brim hat, cut out boots, and my favorite leather tote. I love this look because of the casual yet, edgy vibe it gives off and it really left me feeling “too cool for school!” So tell me, whats your favorite spring piece and how to do you rock it?! SUEDE GARMENTS

When it comes to transitional fabrics, suede is definitely one of my go-to’s. I love it because it’s a texture that can easily be paired with other fabrics and also brings a bit of edge without being too harsh like leather sometimes can. Suede can be worn through most of the seasons and easily provides an element of chicness to any look. So break out your suede while you still can! In honor of the gradually rising temperatures, I decided to give my legs a little fresh air with this look. Forever 21 has really been surprising me lately with their pieces, especially those from the “contemporary” line (which is basically where this entire look is from). Since I chose to show a bit of skin on the bottom, I decided to keep the top covered to maintain a natural balance. For those who are just beginning to style and put looks together, this is a great tip to remember! While I wanted to bring a bit of color into this look, I still wanted to remain fairly neutral so I went for this olive green suede dress which I absolutely love! Being in between seasons, periods of the day can still get quite cool so don’t be afraid to continue to reach for heavier fabrics like suede and leather until the weather consistently heats up. As an extra layer, I paired the dress with a an elegant blouse that incorporated a neck tie detail and button sleeves. This Victorian style of blouse has become quite popular over the last few seasons and definitely brings a bit of chicness to any look. To keep the look fun and playful I threw on my fringe heeled sandals which look amazing when strutting down any street. I like this look because though it is fairly simple, the details in the different pieces seem to speak for themselves and come together quite nicely. Now if spring could just hurry up and get here all would be well! Has anyone heard from the groundhog???? Until next time! 🙂

SPRING STEP

It feels like spring is just around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited! To be honest, I was feeling quite uninspired so I took the weekend to shop around and gather some new pieces that could lift my spirits. While it is no secret that I love a good monochrome palette, I felt like it was time to bring in some lighter tones and fabrics. On this bright and sunny day, I was finally motivated enough to bring out some new transitional pieces that put a little “spring” in my step. I’ve been looking for a loose fitting denim or chambray jumpsuit for a few seasons now and I finally found this gem at none other than Forever 21. For us shorter girls, pieces like this can sometimes look a bit unflattering or overwhelming so fit is everything, and a nice heel doesn’t hurt either. I was so happy to finally be able to ditch my coat and get away with lighter layers that I kept the look extremely simple. To add some movement and dimension, I added a longline, cream colored vest and my tortoise heeled booties. The bag that I chose has also quickly become a new favorite. I love that it fits all of my essentials and I can just grab it and head out the door. There’s really not much to this look other than being comfortable, casual, and chic. I am officially in a spring time frame of mind. BRING. IT. ON!

WINTER WHITE

On this snowy day instead of staying in and hibernating, I decide to take advantage of my surroundings and style an outfit to match. One of my favorite things about being a style blogger, is finding new (or forgotten) gems in my very own closet. I’ve had this white bomber for quite some time and the fact that I have never featured it on my blog was quite surprising to me. Nevertheless, I always jump at the chance to feature a “new” item, so this was my opportunity. Recently, I’ve been sticking to a pretty neutral color palette, (black, white, grey, navy, etc.) and letting the outfit’s fine details draw in the attention. For this look it was the sheer panels on the dress and the quilted design of the leather jacket. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about wearing white that has been really intriguing to me lately. While some see it as a huge risk, I think it is incredibly chic and while it is a struggle to keep my white pieces crisp and clean, it is a challenge I am willing to accept. Yet another casual look for the books I suppose. Until next time! 🙂

Aside from just loving their edgy and structured nature, they are super versatile and can be worn throughout all seasons. They are made in almost every color imaginable and can compliment any style.
