Every now and then I come across a piece that strikes me in a way I simply can’t resist. I saw this top repeatedly via Instagram ads, and as luck would have it, it was sold out for months. Luckily, I’m patient (sometimes) and incredibly persistent, so I was willing to refresh my browser daily until it finally came back in stock—spoiler alert: it did. Surprisingly, with the exception of a few heatwave weeks, summer in NYC has been pretty mild, in my opinion. When it hasn’t been raining, we’ve been averaging 80-degree days that have honestly made getting dressed feel consistently fun and manageable, instead of like an inconvenient chore. At this point, we might as well change my middle name to “Juxtaposition,” because of how often I use it to describe my personal style. Since this top had quite a few feminine details, from the delicate fringe to the satin fabric and draped cowl neck, I definitely wanted to pair it with something a little (or a lot) more edgy. These cargos were a pleasant surprise, as I knew I liked them but had no idea they’d become such a staple in my wardrobe, especially for this current season. That said, pairing these two garments provided the most seamlessly perfect, contrasting match I was looking for. For shoes, I was actually torn between these metallic mules and a slightly more understated pair of snake-print heels. After much deliberation, I had to ask myself, “What would Carrie Bradshaw do?,” and suddenly my decision was made. Since I decided to go for a more eye-catching heel, I toned things down with a neutral distressed bag to make sure the ensemble maintained a casual essence. After adding some black sunnies and my everyday silver jewelry, I was feeling the full SATC fantasy and ready to trot through the crosswalks of New York while giving off full “main character” energy.
