As an avid shopper who’s constantly evolving, selecting pieces for my wardrobe has become more about quality and longevity rather than fleeting trends. Whenever something catches my eye, in addition to cost per wear, I try to envision how the piece can grow with me throughout different phases of my life. During the pandemic, everyone was shifting into more casual garments, and sweatsuits became a go-to uniform for many, including myself. Since then, most of those looks have been demoted to loungewear, but that’s not to say their purpose was in vain. A few months ago I stumbled across what I could consider an elevated take on my “cozy-Covid” attire, and I couldn’t get these belted joggers out of my head. For some, it may seem a bit unnecessary and a tad silly to style sweatpants in this way, but I was instantly intrigued by the added edginess and unexpected nuance that they provided. Because these pants would serve as a main focal point of my ensemble, I kept the rest of the outfit simple with a solid black halter bodysuit and cropped denim jacket. Silver and black accessories were the obvious choice when it came to my bag and jewelry selections, but I wanted to add something more unexpected when it came to footwear. I’ve been coveting these suede boots for nearly two years, and finally, after much deliberation and patience, I stumbled across a third-party seller who was willing to let them go, brand new, for a fraction of the retail price; can you say “meant to be”?!! The slouchy shaft and wedge heel seamlessly mirrored the essence of comfort and ease that I was trying to convey throughout this look, while still providing that element of chic femininity. An eye-catching pair of frames served as a final touch, and my style mission was complete! In my opinion, this outfit was all about finding the statement in the midst of simplicity.
